Matthew Ryan: “For as long as I’m compelled to write and sing, then I will write and sing. As long as it feels like fire.”

Listening to Matthew Ryan‘s music is always a profound experience. There is something so strikingly real and compelling within the beautifully potent sound and voice of the Pennsylvania born singer-songwriter, something that engages with listeners as much as his words, wisdom, grace and all around humbleness. And it’s like an ultimate fuel for the soul that he shares with us fellow humans.

Matthew doesn’t hide his excitement about bringing his music and his band, The Northern Wires over to the UK, Ireland and Europe to join The Gaslight Anthem on their reunion tour in celebration of the ten-year anniversary of The ’59 Sound. And as Matthew is no stranger to the majority of this audience, I am sure that him and his band will receive a great welcome at each show.

A special headlining gig is set to take place at the Borderline venue in London on 30th July, and if you also wish to experience Matthew in a more intimate setting, make sure to catch one of his solo shows, starting on August 1st in Brighton.

I caught up with Matthew before he journeyed across the water to talk about the upcoming tour, music, life and the fire within…

Album Review / Brian Fallon – Sleepwalkers

After one of the most respected punk-rock bands from New Jersey, The Gaslight Anthem, announced an indefinite hiatus back in 2015, their frontman Brian Fallon went on a mission to establish himself as a solo musician. Brian released his debut solo record Painkillers in March 2016, which became a success and received a lot of positive responses from his fans and music critics; and so he quickly took a solid place among his fellow Americana singer-songwriters.  Almost two years have passed and not only we are now very close to the release of Brian’s new album Sleepwalkers (out on February 9th) but to amplify the buzz, The Gaslight Anthem have recently announced tour dates in the US, UK, Ireland and Europe to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of The ’59 Sound record. It ought to be a great year for the fans of Brian and TGA.

AKA George: “I’ll always have freedom over my creativity whether I’m signed or not”

When I first spoke to AKA George four years ago and saw him perform live in Brighton, I was extremely impressed with his boundless talents as well as the undying passion and energy he puts into the creation of his music and performing. Such talent is rare and for that reason major labels wanted to sign him, but, at the time he wasn’t ready and declined the offers. Instead, he went for a wise move – keep on evolving as an artist and improve his songwriting and performing skills. So for the past few years AKA George has been working hard and putting out music for his dedicated fans; music that’s original, creative and brilliant. His latest single Stone Cold Classic, a tune as cool and catchy as it can get, has become a huge hit and proves that AKA George is now more than ready to get signed and show the rest of the world what he’s capable of.

Here is our interview about his musical journey, creative process, performing, fans and plans for next year.
